Bodega Cuatro Rayas - Viñedos Centenarios - Longverdejo

$0.00

Longverdejo is a research-driven, limited-production Verdejo created to preserve the variety’s longevity and ageing potential. The project uses indigenous yeasts recovered from traditional cellars and combines fruit from selected vineyard plots in Segovia and Valladolid. The wine comes primarily from old, goblet-trained vineyards: vines are between 80 and 100 years old in Segovia and more than 40 years old in Valladolid. The selected parcels include Pago Los Pobres, Poza las Lobas, Las Planas, Carretera de Pozaldez, Pago Hospital, Pago de la Cañada and Pago Navazos.

Region & Appellation: D.O. Rueda

Grape Variety: 100% Verdejo

Terroir: A combination of sandy soils in Aldeanueva del Codonal and loamy soils with pebbles in La Seca and Serrada.

Winemaking: Grapes are hand-harvested from selected old goblet-trained Verdejo vineyards (average yield 5,925 kg/ha) and transported in 300 kg crates. After refrigerated storage, sorted on a vibrating selection table and gently pressed in a low-capacity pneumatic press. Each parcel was vinified separately, with fermentation and aging in stainless steel tanks, egg-shaped concrete vats, and 500 L French oak barrels. The final blend is aged on fine lees for 8 months, including 3 months of daily bâtonnage.

Tasting Notes: "Fermented in concrete, stainless steel and barrels, the 2024 Verdejo Longverdejo comes from vines over 80 years old in Rueda. Lees aging and a touch of oak shape aromas of rubber and wafer, joined by herbs and stewed apple. Dry, creamy and fresh on the palate, it gains volume while maintaining agility and concentration, a relative rarity in the category. Tasty, with a finish that recalls the flavor of the grape itself." From Vinous

Food Pairing: Excellent companion to grilled turbot, lobster beurre blanc, roasted chicken with herbs and aged Manchego cheese.

Ratings:

Vintage 2024: 91+ Points Robert Parker & 94 Points Vinous
