Domaine Bott Geyl - Les Elements Gewurztraminer
Bott-Geyl's Gewurztraminer Les Eléments 2019 is a sweet white wine from Alsace, known for its organic and biodynamic viticulture. With intense tropical and spicy notes, it offers an elegant palate. The vineyard's strict organic practices and unique terroir contribute to the wine's purity and character.
Appellation & Region: Alsace
Grape Variety: 100% Gewurztraminer
Vineyards: The vines are organic and biodynamic. Marly-limestone soil.
Winemaking: Hand-harvested, whole-grape pressing, indigenous yeast fermentation, aged on lees, no additives or filtration before bottling.
Tasting Notes: Lychee, lemon peel and an overtone of rose and orange peel release quite the aromatic hit expected of Gewurztraminer. More air adds gentler notions of honeysuckle. Roundness and a lovely bitter element, like almond and pear skin, counter the smooth, generous palate.
Pairings: Creole black pudding, spicy and sweet Asian dishes, rindless cheeses, lemon tarts, citrus parfaits
Ratings:
Vintage 2019: 92/100 Vinous
“The 2019 Gewurztraminer Les Éléments unusually contains the Gewurztraminer of Furstentum and Sonnenglanz grands crus as Bott did not want to bottle these as grands crus. He felt they were lacking something. Lychee, lemon peel and an overtone of rose and orange peel release quite the aromatic hit expected of Gewurztraminer. More air adds gentler notions of honeysuckle. Roundness and a lovely bitter element, like almond and pear skin, counter the smooth, generous palate that easily wears its 48 g/L of residual sweetness and counters with freshness. This is intense and lasting but balanced. (Medium)” - Anne Krebiehl MW. Tasting date: January 2024
