Historically, the AOP Châteauneuf-du-Pape has existed since the 16th century. The history of Domaine du Grand Tinel began in 1968 with the marriage of Christiane Establet and Pierre Élie Jeune. Today, this Domaine represents 53 hectares of vineyards. Most of the vineyards are very old (about 75 years), which gives the wine a greater concentration of aromas and flavors. Currently, the estate is managed by their children Isabelle, Béatrice, and Christophe.
Appellation: Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Region: Southern Rhone Valley
Grape variety: This cuvée is produced only in exceptional years and is made from 100% Grenache Noir.
The Grenache has been fermented in wood vats and temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, then matured for 18 months in oak barrels and demi-muids. This technique gives fruity aromas to the wine while preserving its freshness. It displays very complex aromas and flavors such as black cherry, black currant, mocha, vanilla, paprika, and black pepper. This wine has excellent aging potential and can be enjoyed after at least 15 years.

Vintage 2023: 91/100 Wine Advocate & 94/100 Jeb Dunnuck
“Crafted mainly from vines planted in galets roulés soils, the 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Alexis Establet exhales aromas of spices, licorice, toast and smoke. Medium- to full-bodied, structured and dense, it has a creamy core of fruit with an oaky finish. This pure Grenache Noir was matured for 12 months in 40% large barrels and the rest in foudres.” Yohan Castaing
“The smaller production special cuvée 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Alexis Establet shows very pretty assorted red berry fruits, spring flowers, and pepper, with some loamy earth nuances. Based on 100% Grenache from the Gardiole lieu-dit and aged 12 months in foudre and demi-muids, it's medium-bodied, with a pure, layered, graceful mouthfeel, nicely integrated tannins, and outstanding length. It's very much in the style of this forward, balanced, elegant vintage, with roughly 1,250 cases produced. Drink 2025-2038.” Jeb Dunnuck
Vintage 2022: 91/100 Wine Advocate, 91-93/100 Jeb Dunnuck & 94/100 James Suckling
“Crafted from vines planted on lieu-dit La Gardiole on galets roulés, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Alexis Establet is fresher and fruitier than the cuvée Tradition, evoking aromas of dark cherries, fresh thyme, kirsch and baked dark berries. Medium to full-bodied, round and supple, it's enrobing with a fleshy core of fruit and an elegant sensation of alcohol that concludes into a finish of dark cherries and spices. This 100% Grenache Noir was matured for 12 months in foudres and large barrels or demi-muids.” Yohan Castaing
“The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Alexis Establet, which is all Grenache, brings a ripe, more floral, more open style to go with textbook Grenache red fruits, dried garrigue, flowers, and ground pepper. It's balanced, medium to full-bodied, has supple tannins, and tons of up-front charm and character.” Jeb Dunnuck
Vintage 2017: 95/100 Wine Enthusiast (dec 2020), 93/100 The wine cellar insider (sept 2019), 93+/100 The Wine Advocate (august 2019) and 95/100 Jeb Dunnuck.com (august 2019).
“Based all on Grenache brought up in foudre and old barrels, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Alexis Establet sports a deeper, saturated purple color as well as beautiful blueberries, blackberries, leafy herbs, ground pepper, and crushed rock-like minerality. Elegant yet powerful, with medium to full-bodied richness, it shines for its balance, complexity, and length.” Jeb Dunnuck
