Domaine du Grand Tinel Red

$0.00

Historically, the AOP Châteauneuf-du-Pape dates back to the 16th century. The Domaine du Grand Tinel's history began in 1968 with the marriage of Christiane Establet and Pierre Élie Jeune. Today, this Domaine represents 53 hectares of vineyards, with most of the vineyards being very old (about 75 years). These older vines contribute to a greater concentration of aromas and flavors in the wine. Currently, the Estate is managed by their children Isabelle, Béatrice, and Christophe.

Appellation: Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Region: Southern Rhone Valley

Grape Varieties: 82% Grenache and 18% Syrah

Winemaking: Traditional method; grape varieties vinified separately; fully destemmed and crushed; temperature-controlled fermentation; long cuvaison; daily tastings to determine pressing/racking date; free-run and press wines kept separate. 10 months in foudres, demi-muids, and barriques; final blend determined just before bottling.

Pairings: Pairs beautifully with duck breast with cherry reduction, beef daube (Provençal stew), and grilled sausages with lentils.

Ratings:

Vintage 2023: 90/100 Wine Advocate & Vinous, 91/100 Jeb Dunnuck, 92/100 James Suckling, 93/100 Decanter

Shy and introverted, the 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape offers up aromas of spices and gentian. Medium- to full-bodied, round and sappy, it’s juicy with an elegant, spicy finish. This blend of 82% Grenache Noir and 18% Syrah is a classic.” Yohan Castaing

Meaty black cherries, sappy garrigue, flowers, and black olives all emerge from the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape, which is based on 82% Grenache and 18% Syrah and aged 12 months in a mix of foudre, demi-muids, and used barrels. It's medium-bodied, charming, spicy, and complex, with ripe tannins and the more forward, delicious, easy style of the vintage. This beautifully balanced effort is as charming and satisfying as they come, with roughly 1,650 cases produced. Drink 2025-2035.” Jeb Dunnuck

"Very appealing spicy plum and damson fruit; this is juicy and quite soft, with no big structure or acidity. It feels quite compact and complete. Long and well balanced, with some length of spiced plum into the finish. Mostly galets roulés; certified Haute Valeur Environnementale.” Matt Walls from Decanter

Vintage 2022: 91/100 Jeb Dunnuck

Vintage 2020: 96/100 Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 Jeb Dunnuck and 92/100 James Suckling
