Casa Agrícola Pepe Mendoza - Pureza

$0.00

Pureza is a dry white amphora wine inspired by the historic “Brisats” (skin-contact whites) traditionally made in the region. Sourced from a 2-hectare vineyard in Benimei, Pla de Lliber (300 m elevation), the vines were planted in 1943 and are dry-farmed, goblet-trained. The vineyard yields 2,500 kg/ha on ferrous clay soils with calcareous stones, expressing purity and Mediterranean character.

Appellation: D.O. Alicante

Grape Variety: 100% Moscatel de la Marina

Winemaking: Hand-harvested in early September 2024 in 10 kg crates. Whole clusters are pressed and fermented artisanally with must and skins using indigenous yeasts, without acidity correction, settling, or enzymes. Fermentation occurs in clay amphorae (220–350L) for 8–10 days with 2–3 daily gentle macerations. No batonnage. The wine ages 6 months in the same amphorae before bottling.

Tasting Notes: "It has a beautiful, perfumed nose, way beyond the varietal notes from the variety, with notes of tangerine peel, mint and some spices—is it the flor? With time, it develops a note of umami, redolent of chicken broth, with notes of sea breeze and flowers; it's very complex. The wine is very salty, sapid, vibrant and effervescent with acidity. It's full of personality and very different." From Luis Gutiérrez (Robert Parker)

Food Pairing: Exceptional with soft cheeses, Mediterranean grilled fish, red tuna tartare, seafood paella, vegetable paella, and roasted white meats.

Ratings:

Vintage 2024: 94 Points Wine Advocate.
